✅ Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS)

A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is a type of cyberattack where multiple compromised systems (often part of a botnet) overwhelm a target, such as a website, server, or network, with excessive traffic. This flood of requests can slow down or completely shut down the target, making it inaccessible to legitimate users.

Types of DDoS Attacks:

1. Volumetric Attacks – Overload bandwidth (e.g., UDP Flood, ICMP Flood).

2. Protocol Attacks – Exploit weaknesses in network protocols (e.g., SYN Flood, Ping of Death).

3. Application-Layer Attacks – Target web applications (e.g., HTTP Flood, Slowloris).

How to Mitigate DDoS Attacks:

- Use firewalls and intrusion detection systems (IDS).

- Deploy rate limiting and traffic filtering.

- Utilize DDoS mitigation services (e.g., Cloudflare, Akamai, AWS Shield).

- Enable load balancing to distribute traffic.

- Implement network redundancy and scaling strategies.
